[DeLa Doll] Life Updates, My First Artist Alley, FanHouse, and More!
It’s time for a life and content update! A lot has happened over the last year and a half in regards to personal life, my content goals, and, you know, the global pandemic, so I’m going to catch you up on all the good, the frustrating, and the exciting things happening in my little world.
Life Updates: Graduating & Job Hunting
For those who don’t know (because they probably aren’t following me on Twitter, where I can be found shitposting, engaging in all sorts of discourse, and just being an opinionated nerd), I’m a Communication & Media major. I’ve been working on my degree for a while, and I’m currently 1 credit shy of graduating with my Bachelor’s! It’s been a long road to get to this point, especially as someone who was also working, at my day job, freelancing, and raising a kid. I’m super proud of myself and ready to move forward with the next chapter of my life, so if you or anyone you know is looking for an enthusiastic and passionate nerdy pop culture writer or content creator, feel free to hit me up. Your girl is ready to work, ok? Kotaku, BuzzFeed…I’m looking at you, respectfully. My writing portfolio is available for review here, btw.
Content Updates: WasabiCon Artist Table, FanHouse, New Webseries, New Instagram?!
WasabiCon Jax – My Artist Alley Debut!
Now for the fun shit: Content updates! As you probably already know, because you’re here, I’m a jack of all trades. I cosplay, I make and sell art in my Etsy shop, I write, I make videos…I suspect that if I’m not creating something, I may perish. With this in mind, I’m very pleased to announce that I’ll be attending WasabiCon Jax next month with my very first artist’s alley table! I’ll be there in full cosplay (and a face mask, armed with hand sanitizer and disinfectant), selling some of the merch from Etsy shop, as well as some new designs and items! If you’re free during that time, come by and see me!
Monetization and Moving to FanHouse
In addition to my artist’s alley debut, I’ve also decided to move from OnlyFans to a new (and sfw) platform for my exclusive content! The platform is called FanHouse, and it’s a much more creator-focused platform than some of the platforms I’ve used in the past. For a while, because I was still finishing up school and figuring myself out as a creator, I was content to just post exclusive content for free via OnyFans, despite it being a less than ideal platform for a number of reasons (little creator protection, questionable practices, the list goes on).
Now, however, I am moving forward with a clear focus for what I want to accomplish as an artist and creator, and so I needed a better platform to help accomplish that. I weighed my options and decided that I wasn’t interested in going back to Patreon, definitely wasn’t interesting in continuing to use OnlyFans, and that I was fine with a SFW platform because I don’t make explicit NSFW content anyway. It became clear that FanHouse was the platform for me based on what I wanted to do, the features available, their commitment to helping creators, and the ease of use (having an actual, fully functional app was a huge plus. Sorry Ko-Fi. Sorry Patreon). So, I’m currently offering exclusive content like (SFW) pin-up photosets, sneak peeks at upcoming articles, videos, cosplays, and products, and behind-the-scenes looks at my creative process and artistic chaos. The price for access is $10 a month, which is the fairest price I could give based on how frequently I plan to post, what I plan to post, and what will help me continue to grow and create while still keeping things accessible for supporters. I hope you’ll join me there!
New YouTube Series
As I mentioned in my previous blog post, I started a new web series entitled “Cosplay & Commentary.” It’s exactly what it sounds like. Me, doing what I do best: Wearing cosplay and being delightfully opinionated. Episode 1 involved me transforming myself into Demon Slayer villain Akaza through the power of makeup while I waxed poetic about a variety of Demon Slayer topics including my favorite and least favorite characters, fan theories, crying during Mugen Train, and more! Episode 2 will debut on October 1st with a slightly updated format: I won’t be doing my makeup and giving commentary. Instead, I’ll already be in full cosplay and giving in-depth commentary on the topic of choice. My makeup/cosplay transformation video will be separate because it’s…honestly really fucking hard for me to talk about anything besides makeup while doing makeup. So now you get two videos instead of just one! Lucky you. For anyone curious, the topic of episode two was chosen by my lovely Twitter followers via a group poll, with “Black Vampires in Media” winning by a landslide.
If you want to see me dressed up as a melanin-rich bloodsucker, giving you fun facts and my own views on Black vampires, be sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel! You can also read a preview of the script right now on my FanHouse account!
New Instagram Account
My final update may come as a surprise to some, but I’ve decided to start over completely on Instagram. My reasons are varied, but the biggest reason is that I wanted to start over with an account that better reflects me as an artist and a creator. I love makeup artistry, cosplay, cosplay-inspired fashion…artsy nerd shit, you know? My new feed definitely reflects this, and it looks much more organized! While it wasn’t an easy decision to make, I’m very happy with the outcome so far, so follow me there if you like my cosplay, crafting, and cosmetics shenanigans <3
And that’s all! Thanks for taking an interest in me and my crafty little world.
